6.7 Rods???garbage?
are the 6.7 rods different from the 5.9's? and where do they differ?
i have talked to a few people this week, and its only tues, and 3 guys with 07's have had to replace the motors on their truck due to broken Rods. i stop into a tranny shop local to me cause the guy was having a problem with the bully dog not coming off his computer, he said he buddy out west has a new 6.7 and broke the rods in it twice now. i just got back from the scrap steel place and the guy there running the swing shovel wanted to buy my truck cause he replaced his motor once and now is sitting in his drive way broken again. Rods again. no warranty. i am wondering what the difference are between the old trucks and the newer 6.7's

Not the rods so much as the stroke. Longer stroke puts more stress on the rods as RPMs go up, more rotating mass. I haven't actually heard much about it for stock trucks, but aftermarket loaders like the Bully seem to cause more of these failures.

So basically stock to mild power mods should be ok??? Anytime you aggressively mod a truck something could happen.

i disagree, cause this one guy had an 04 with 3 stacked boxes, and drove it hard, this new truck has one programmer, and it has broken twice now.

talked to another guy with 6.7 , 2 broken Rods.
it seems like alot of money to spend, on a truck that can't seem to do anything but pull a trailer, or work hard, but not too hard, and with no programming, and CAN'T go to the stopre, or to the movie, or out to eat in fear of the emmisions stuff going south. can't run any type of diesel,or oil, etc etc. man what happen to the good old days, the 12 valve stuff, dump what ever you like in your fuel, it will burn it, idle all day, it don't care, drive it, pull super heavy, those trucks just didn't care.these new ones, i don't know. i think i will park my 04, and save it for the future. |

The EPA happened.. that's what. The old saying "you wanna play, be prepared to pay" still applies today as it always has. As for going to the movies/grocery getting or whatever else, you CAN do these things with the 6.7L. There are a few things a person should do when using it this way however. ALWAYS use tow/haul mode and the EB when driving in town, loaded or not. Keeping the revs up reduces the soot produced. With the newest flashes installed, the 6.7L can be used any way the driver wants to use it. Great strides have been made since the first one rolled off the line.

You sure seem to know a lot of guys with broken rods..........
Funny, with you knowing that many, we haven't heard of a single issue here. Anybody over on TDR or CompDiesel hearing about broken rods?

I have been on the TDR many times and haven't read anything of the sort. Now Morkable broke a rod in his 5.9, but he was running about 1200hp on nitrous on the 1/4 mile..
