48RE Upgrade Questions(Converter, Valvebody, Full Trans)???

I currently have my 01 HO 6 speed sold and I'm thinking of upgrading to a 3rd Gen.

I was thinking of going Auto this time although I'm not positive yet.

With the mods listed on my 01 I feel like I can't shift nearly fast enough and I am running the EDGE on Level One.

I have searched and didn't come up with a lot

So, my questions about the auto are these:

I don't beat the hell out of my truck. I actually baby it most of the time trying to get good fuel economy. Don't tow much. In the 3 years I've had my 01 I've towed a car twice and a 4 place open snowmobile trailer a few times. Tow a two place sled trailer quite often but thats only like 2000 lbs, if that. I want the auto to hold up.

I know the stock tranny needs work.

I have a reputable tranny shop that did my clutch and I have already talked to them about doing auto tranny upgrades.

I am thinking about the following mods:

Probably a Smarty
5" exhaust
AFE air intake
gauges of course

I would like to be at the power level I'm at now and have the tranny last at least a year or two until I can do the full tranny.

I have read some people having really good luck with just a valve body?
I have had others say do the converter and valve body?
Others say the stock trans will just take a dump no matter what?

Opinions on what to do?
What brand?
Was leaning towards Goerend triple disc and valve body.

On converters, I would honestly like a higher stall(Similar to stock). What are your choices? What is the stock stall? Drove a Dodge with a lower stall the other day and it seemed like it made take off really laggy, almost like driving a powerstroke or duramax?

On the valvebody, can you not do it on the 05 or 06 that have the electric shift solenoid?

I plan on doing the full trans upgrade(w/billet input) in a year or two but want it to hold up till then.

I plan on doing a deep transmission pan and having a tranny temp gauge.

x2, i did a shift kit on mine before i went all out on it. held up even with me beating on it at the track. if you are not racing and doing boosted launches, i think a VB and converter is good for now.

You have the right idea and the right guy for what you want. Call and talk to Dave Goerend and tell him what you just told us and he will build you a TC with the stall you want and a VB to match. He won't try to "upsell" you either. Whatever you need for your application is what he'll recommend.

Any other opinions on brand?

Was thinking about the ATS 5 disc converter as well?

Or Suncoast?

Can't go wrong with Dave...

Get a TC, VB, and deep pan and you should be good.

No doubt that there are a lot of good transmission people out there (at least the major ones are good) but I did a lot of reading here (and other forums) and I never saw anything bad about Goereands, so I used them, and I'm happy with my stuff. Only thing is that initially it may be hard to get in touch with them (I finally called in the early morning) until you get on their 'call back' list.
I think they are also more economical (that wasn't why I picked them, though) than some others and the converters have a lifetime warranty.
