4" or 5" Exhuast

I just got an 04 3500 and will be loading it up over time, to include HX40, Propane, Box, etc. I used to have a PSD and ran a 4" exhuast on that. Is there a negative side to having to big of an exhaust and is a 5" too big for what I plan to do with it. I just don't want to put a 4" on and then pull it off only to install a 5". Any comments would be appreciated.

I've always heard that unless you're going over 500 HP then a 4" exhaust is all you need....or something like that. :-

Re:4" or 5" Exhuast

GDH11,

Checkout the last issue of the TDR, there was an article on when 5 inch is needed and soon. Basically they stated that when you get at the 500 RWHp level you would need the CFM capacity of 5 inch, below that it hurt the low end torque response of the the truck. Just an FYI. Call us if you have exhaust questions or visit our site.

Re:4" or 5" Exhuast

There is a good thread in the 2nd gen performance area about just this topic. Good information on how the size of the pipe affects performance...

Seems to me the 5" is a waste of dough...
