I have '01 wheels on my '94
I crank em till they're tight

however you WILL have prob's with the rear drums-they are too big for the 3rd gen rims (smaller diameter). Plus they don't stick out as wide as the '01 trucks. Your stance will be narrower.
You can either grind the drums ALOT, or buy spacers/adapters for it. I bought gm/chevy adapters, but they came with 14mm hardware. Dodge uses 9/16. So be aware of that.... I'm still trying to find small 9/16 bolts for the spacers....

I put 3rd gen alloys on my 99 with ZERO problems. No grinding, etc. They sit fine (albeit just a tad narrower) in the wheel wells with the 265s on em.

I think i torqued em to 140 ft-lbs.

The grinding/turning of drums is only if you are installing 2000-2002 rims on a pre-2000 truck. Been there, done that, on my 99. When I put 3rd gen wheels on my 96 the only issue was the studs seem to be a little short, but there is still enough for the lug nuts to catch thread all the way through, just none past the lug nuts.
Torqued to 135 ft. lbs. and all is well, for enough miles to wear out a set of stock Michellins, towing heavy enough to wear out the rears before the fronts (I don't do burn outs).

Backspacing on 2001 alloys and 3rd gen alloys is the same. The "stance" should be the same between alloys. 2nd gen steel rims are only 6.5 inches wide. When going to an 8 inch wide alloy, the extra width is on the inside of the rim. This keeps the rims tucked up under the wheel well.

I find with mine the center caps don't grab very good on the lug nuts , always having to beat one on after it comming off a bit , I guess its only a matter of time before I lose one. Maybe the lug nuts are a little bigger on a 3rd Gen ??????????

i am selling my 2006 rims to a guy with a 2001 tonight.

will my 2006 lugnuts work on his 2001?

will he need my lugnuts to make the center caps stay on?
what if i keep my 06 center caps,
can't he run his 2001 center caps on the 06 rims, with the 01 lugnuts?

he has the 16 inch aluminum 2001 rims, but tires are bald. so buying my rims & tires just for the tires

i really like my lugnuts, was gonna keep'em for a long time.....

The lug nuts are the same on 2nd gen and 3rd gen.

I think the problem comes in with alloy vs. steel. With the steels rims, the caps do not fit all the way down and there is a gap between the cap and the wheel.

Not sure on the 2001 caps on the 2006 wheels. Give it a try and let us know!

no go.

i had my rims & tires on Craigslist for $550, figuring i could haggle down to $500 and be good.

THEN he tried haggling me down by saying "now, i gotta go PAY to have all these balanced before i can put them on"

and THEN i remembered i just paid $99 to have them balanced.

so i held firm on $550. i think he offered $400 or so.

i got those 22x10 rims on my truck, if i pop a tire, it could be a problem getting a replacement, or especially a new rim.

so i kinda like having the OEM tires handy. so i washed them up, front & back and rolled them into the back yard again.

Uneven torque on the rims leaves the potential for one of the lugs to start working it's way loose, and the rest are sure to follow suit eventually, and well we all know what happens after that :P....

Also if you're not measuring the torque you COULD be applying to much which will stretch the studs, fatigue the metal, and eventually the stud will sheer off...

It's always smart to torque things to spec that are important as the wheels, torque spec is 140ftlbs as Invader posted.

It looks like the 16x8 & 17&8 wheels have 6.5" backspacing. Do you know what the backspacing is on the 2nd gen 16x6.5" steel wheels?

Has anybody ran the 17x8 wheels with 285/70/17 tires on 2nd gen non-lifted truck? Since all the extra width goes to the inside, I'm wondering if there are clearance issues between the leaf springs & rear tire and between the front tire & whatever there is that could pose a problem.
