3k & 4k GSK?
Can someone explain for us ignorant types what the 3k and 4k GSK's are? -- or at least give us a link? It has something to do with governor springs in the injector pump that allow the rail to continue to fuel beyond 3000 or 4000 rpm -- I know that much, I think.

I know there's been a recent thread, but I'd like to have it better described, and perhaps know a bit about the issues and advantages -- particularly for street and towing.

Thanks!

GP

Gear Poet:
I cannot provide much technical detail, but I have the 3K gsk, and here is what I have found. The engine now runs smoothly and evenly all the way to about 3200. Although I hardly ever use the full RPM, the continued fuelling up to that point makes the truck much more driveable; the feel is MUCH stronger.
For towing, the GSK is great. Now that I have the ATS, I can lock up in 2d gear and pull strong all the way to over 50mph. For in-city stop and go, this ability is great, and overcomes the feeling of being behind all of the other traffic. Also, coming off of on on-ramp, the 3000 lets you wind out in thrd gear locked up to over 75MPh (3;54) nOT Much is able to keep up as you merge into traffic.

I asssume that the 4000 is even better, but I did not want to change the valve springs.
george

You can get the GSK at: Piers Diesel. Also, call Piers or Louise for information or advice. Piers is one of the most knowledgeable Cummins people around.
george

Re:3k & 4k GSK?
GP,
I've got a 3K GSK just sitting here waiting to go in my '96. I think it's going to help peg the "FUN-O-METER"!
I think it's 'bout time for you to "plug and play" with yours (EZ or Comp, etc.)
Say, just a little something interesting- Last weekend I installed a compressor upgrade on my turbo. It is a housing and pinwheel for a HX40. My low throttle boost has almost doubled, peak went from about 35 to 40-42, and I even get more just cruising down the highway with no load. The turbo was barking sometimes just when the automatic was shifting! I have readjusted my boost control for 35psi max, which is just where I wanted it. Throttle response is better, and spool up is quite a bit quicker.

Ya, I was being stupid -- though maybe there was something I could be doing with the VP44 in addition to the comp controls -- duh! :-[

Got the Edge C. installed already.

Curious -- on that HX35/40 -- is that a kit? If so, where & how much?

GP
