I heed to pull the injectors on a 3406B in a Freightliner Truck. In order to get at the # 1 injector I have to pull the air compressor. Does anyone know if the gear comes out with the compressor or if I need to be carefull not to lose a key or anything. The PS pump is mounted opposite of the compressor. Thanks

The injector is centered between the valves. There is a short line that connects from the feed through to the injector. I'm not sure why you would need to remove the compressor, it should be far enough out of the way.

I can reach in behind the compressor and feel the injector but there is no way I can get it out with the compressor in the way.

I'm confused on what your trying to do. On our 3406B the compressor sit directly above the injection pump, makes a little difficult to get at the injection lines on the outside of the head. Is yours in a different spot? Where the line goes into the head is just a feed through and there is another short line under the valve cover that connects to the injector. I don't have my book handy right now, but I pretty sure you need to remove the valve covers and possible the engine brake to get the injectors out.

To get the nozzles out of the 3406B engine, remove valve covers, then the jake/pac head, removing the engine brake covers/spacers makes it easier. Next step is to remove the fuel line that is inside. The injection pump feeds lines that go the cylinder head to the thur head adapter, then to a short line thats inside the covers to the nozzles. No reason to take the air comp off, but if you want to, need to drain coolant, the gear stays with the comp. There is special socket to remove the cap that holds the nozzle in the head, then a puller to pull them out. Make sure the little washer doesnt fall off when the nozzle is pulled out & fall.
