2001 24V a good engine?

Hi fella's. I haven't posted here in awhile but I am looking to pick up an 01 Quad Cab with a 24v in it. It has a manual transmission. The only experience I have is with the 12v I had in my 92 which I loved.

I remember reading there were certain year 24v engines that had bad blocks. Is this one of them? Any other problems I need to be aware of? Is this manual transmission pretty solid. The truck has 115k miles and looks to be in great condition. I would be trying for the $11k range on price. It looks like it has had some aftermarket work done as it says ATS on the side and "Supertuned by bluechip".

Your input is appreciated.

thats a good truck. i think the 98.5-00 had the "53" blocks. thats the one to avoid. the manuals are stout. the 5-speeds sometime have problems with 5th gear. 6-speeds are bulletproof but are hard to get parts for. that truck has a VP44 which arent the best but are still ok if you have a good aftermarket lift pump.

Just keep an eye on the primary fuel pressure from the lift pump. They are good trucks. A little louder than others. 01.5 model year got disk rear brakes, and a manual has the Dana 80 in the back.

If its a 6-speed try to ensure it has always had the correct fluid in it. The wrong fluid kills this trans in short order and rebuilding can cost a few grand. I have been pretty happy with mine. Watch the fuel delivery system with an eagle eye though!

Thanks for the info and replies. After closer inspection I have decided to pass on this truck and keep looking. It had way too many aftermarket parts for my liking and the injector pump was shot already. (The dealer was in the process of getting that fixed)
