2-Cycle Oil in the Fuel Tank?
Ok everyone this is it!
We have all read the countless 2-cycle oil posts, threads, write ups etc. Lets settle this once and for all. All of the information has been put out on the table and its all been digested. To keep the old research in the past and bring what people now know to light...... Should we run 2-Cycle Oil in out trucks Yea or Nay and Why.... |

Well I'm not sure about long term use and it helping, but I will say that my truck sure runs quieter and seems to be freer. Mybe its just that I think its better so it is but I sure notice it when its not in the fuel. Been using it for a couple years now and plan on keepin' on.

I have been running Wal-Mart SuperTech, 16oz at every fill up, usually between 1/2 & 1/4 tank for almost 3 years. It quiets my injector rattle, thats the only apparent result thats noticable. I sent my injectors to Formula 1, through Rip at Source Automotive, Rip relayed to me, that my injectors, these are his words, "were cream puffs". Translation = Virgins/New/Solid, 2 CYCLE OIL has not hurt them.

well since my truck is not designed to run off the ultra low sulfur stuff i always add some 2 stroke every other tank, It also helped smooth out my idle.

Depends. I think on the VE and VP44 pumped trucks it a a good idea. The P-pump would probably be just as happy pumping gasoline or paint thinner as diesel fuel. The commonrail trucks probably don't need it either.

I run it in every tank. Then again I run 8 months or so every year on #1 as well.

16oz nearly every fill up.
Quiets the 'rattle' significantly. ![]() As for added lubricity equaling extended longevity of the VP or Lift pumps, hard to say. I installed a Glacier Diesel Walbro system to eliminate the junque stock pump, and I have replaced two HR-VP44 Injection Pumps that only lasted 1 1/2 years each with a Blue Chip pump. ![]()

1oz per gallon is a good rule of thumb. Thats what it is for my truck anyhow.

I tried it last week. A couple of interesting things happened. I recently installed a lift pump from an 8.3L and it was starting to take pressure dives. It would go up to 17psi and down to 4 or 5psi. Right when I was going to tap my new pump or take it apart to see what was messing with the pressure regulator, I read one of the posts on 2cycle oil. I went to Orielly to get some Valvoline and all they had that looked any good was Lucas. I got a quart and threw it in the FULL tank. It did get quieter but it seemed to get sluggish. The interesting thing though is the fuel pressure came back up after a few minutes and stayed up. Due to the sluggishness I think I will try Marvel Mystery Oil next.

I lost 2 LP after I started using it. One was a Walbro after 2 yrs and 25,000 miles, one was an Airdog after 500 miles! Not sure if it was cuased by 2-stroke or not, but that is the common denominator for me, so I will not use it anymore. Power Service it is!!
