'07 6.7 and stacks

Has anyone put stacks on the 6.7 yet? I am planning on buying an '07 2500 6.7 ctd in a couple of months.

With the new emissions stuff I don't know if that's a good idea. The exhaust gets really hot.

Welcome!

This is a tough one... the new emmisions will be hard to get around. The only thing that I can thing of would be to talk to a mech at the dealership. How far back is the particulate traps (or whatever they are)? I doubt that you could move them, they are probably positioned at a certain place for a certain reason.

If you do put stacks on one, it is highly suggested to leave on the particulate filter and cat. Part. Filter because you won't be able to get your car inspected any where when it is time and there will probably be some warranty issues if you remove that. Cat same as well. That said, variable vain turbos HAVE to have backpressure in order for it to work properly and spool up faster. Test after test with variable vain show lower spool up speeds removing the restrictions. Curious to see how much "yeah make it loud" and "that is so cool" goes on with this thread. The smart ones will leave it in, others will put them back in after trying or legal (emissions) and warranty problems. can't wait to see those voided warranty posts after they get on the market big time.

I know companies will be selling exhaust for them just like they do the powerchoke variable turbo, remember they are only in business to make money, point of most businesses and if they don't make them, they won't make money.

As long as you leave the particulate and cat you should be fine.
Some places might be really picky and say you need to have a muffler, but all the inspection places here in Texas have overlooked that....
Usually the guys just come out and check out the stacks and ask questions, etc...

I dont know how good it will sound being muffled with the particulate filter and cat, but its better than messing with all that emissions jazz....

In texas, the turbo itself can qualify somehow for a muffling device. I only suggest to leave in the filter and cat, chunk the muffler and have fun. I like stacks, but I don't want the holes in the bed and constantly need every inch of the bed for stuff.

now we are getting the answers i wanted.

the emmissions test part i am not worried about, as kentucky has no inspections. i am going to test drive one this weekend. ill crawl under it and look where the filter and cat is.

do you think i could remove one or the other if need be to get the stacks to hook up?

hopefully they will get a programmer out soon for these engines...

You may have no emmission check in that State, but your ECM will always be looking at the temperature of your DPF inlet and outlet , and pressure differential of the inlet and outlet to the DPF , if it is not getting the right signal return , you will have a check engine light along with a severe derate.

also, is the 5.9 in the '07's easier to fix up, as far as programmer and such. does the 5.9 have products out for it already?

The 5.9 has had stuff out for a long time.The 6.7 is new with what has been called one of the biggest changes in diesel land.Model year 07 and 10 is kinda milestones due to emissons standards set forth by big brother(FEDS) In the not far off horizion emisson testing will be creeping across the land at as fast a rate as the ice caps are melting.I'd think long and hard these days about removing cats and exhaust filters.
