Those temps sound about right for a stock truck. I am not sure what the X2 does for timing, but stock will run 1375-1450* continuous all day long, and can spike above that in certain circumstances. The F1's and the Quad probably add a little to that.
A Smarty Jr will really drop your EGT's, probably about 200*. On a hard pull I get to about 1200* max, was at about 1275-1300* max before the cam. Unless you get up over 450rwhp the stock intake is plenty of air, as is the exhaust. A 5" may show you a slight EGT decrease, but nothing special. You may benefit from a Home Depot CAI, it pretty much stopped all movement of my filter minder. What kind of boost are you building?

AH64ID,
At cruising speed(65mph) I see around 5 psi of boost. When I accelerate fairly hard it will soar over 30 psi pretty quick. I have not gotten on it real hard so I don't know where the boost will top out. I know that HTT set the wastegate to 40 psi. I know that when my stock turbo went out, I pulled the air filter out and it was domed up real bad in the middle. It was an amsoil nanofilter and it was pretty new(5000 miles or so). It had actually pulled on it so hard that the steel mesh was starting to separate from the rubber gasket on the sides. It did not put a hole in it but it would have soon. I checked it and it did not seem to be very dirty either. I remember one time you mentioned to me that the filter minder may have been bad. I was beginning to think the same thing until I saw what it did to the filter. Now I'm not so sure. As far as the air intake goes, I planned to make my own but a friend of mine is going to give me a cold air intake(Airaid) so I will just buy a new dry filter for it and give it a try for now. Would the standard smarty be as good as the Jr? I have been looking at getting one is why I ask. I knew that the temps can get up there on the later models but I was suprised at how quick. I don't race it or abuse it but I hear about people drag racing their trucks and say that they get to 1600* at the end of the 1/4 mile. The way my temps climb I would be at 1600 by the 60' mark .You said the stock trucks can see 1375-1450 continuous. I was thinking that was too hot. If not then I am probably ok. The truck runs great. It definitely has more power than it ever did stock although I don't really use the power much. I do put about 150 miles a day on it though. thanks for the reply. Dave |

An X2 will get up there egt wise quick no matter what setting but no worse then stock. I've had the first run and the X2 truck ran great. Then I went to Jr and drops egts 200+ on my egts when towing. Now my boost is lower then with X2 but power is smoother and quicker. Jr is smokey'r then the X2 was but less injector rattle. With my x2 could top out at 1400-1500 egts pulling hard Jr max I've seen so far 1250. Wish I still had the x2 so I could run the combo pressure only X2 @ 25-40 hp setting I bet it would be a pulling mambo jambo. I think Jr is smokey'r because of more timing avalible to you and less boost then what the X2 does cause its more pressure less timing and more boost fooling earlier.
I did a drop in True flow in modified box and has worked great. Oh replace intake tube or gut it. It does help.

FWIW, the 4" toilet flange & 4" convoluted drain tubing from Lowe's in the bottom of my airbox has stopped the filter-minder from pulling down. Shouldn't that help cool EGT's? I don't have a pyrometer or I'd know for sure...

It should help a little, but on my truck the Home Deopt CAI only dropped the IAT's about 1-2*, which is only a 1.5-3* EGT drop.

I had egt's that I was not happy with too. I went to a single 62/65/12 and saw a little reduction, but not enough to make me happy or worry less about them.
I went to a 5" exhaust system, much better out flow. I was truly suprised to see as much soot buildup in the 4" system as I saw. I'd bet the cat was getting plugged up pretty good, probably a major contributor to the higher temps. When I went to the compounds my egt's dropped like a rock, have not been over 1100*s towing really heavy loads up very steep grades. I used to have a Quadzilla STD, but the temps were higher than I liked, especially towing, and I do a lot of towing. Plus I had more rattle than I wanted to be hearing as well when towing. I sold the Quad and went to the Smarty Jr. While the Smarty does drop the egt's, the timing does increase the engine temps due to hotter burn in the cylinders. I have no idea how much temp increase takes place in the cylinders, so I added the OPIE bypass to get more coolant flow to the rear cylinders. Kind of a trade off of where you have heat you can see at the pyro and not see in the cylinders. Obviously more intake air will serve to help with egt's, I see much better egt temps with the better intake air flow using a larger air filter, and of course the compounds have made even a bigger difference as well. At this point in time, I have such low egts and increased power from the compounds I probably don't need the Smarty jr whatsoever. The mechanical mods per se provided good power gains all by themselves over using a programmer to achieve some of the changes I was seeking. I am not running the Jr at all and am very pleased with the setup I am running now. CD

the smarty jr will help a lot. the 06 third injection pulse causes the egt's to be higher. they oil cool the pistons and were designed to be able to run 200* hotter. the f1 actually lowers the egt on a equel power setting by shortning the duration effectively advancing timing the smarty dynamically advances timing for lowest egt. change the filter to the new mopar, it has nearly the same area as the 6.7's. change the exhaust to 5" if you want quiet no drone get donaldson M 090072 resonator and M 101181 muffler. ryder thuck parts has about the best price. some time in the future change the cam to a pdr or colt to get rid of the in cylinder egr. these mod's will also give you about 42 % increase in mpg over stock
